Our wood waste containers

A wood waste container actually speaks for itself. Wood is allowed in this container, of course. Wood waste often arises during rebuilding, renovation, major clearance or demolition work. Examples are doors, window frames and wooden furniture. But beware, not all types of wood are allowed in the wood waste container. Untreated and treated wood (A- and B-grade wood) are allowed in the wood waste container. Small debris is allowed provided it does not exceed 10mm. These contaminants are removed by a magnet. Which wood is not allowed in the wood waste container? That is impregnated wood, also called C-wood. These are, for example, fences, which are Wolmanized. C-wood cannot be reused, as harmful substances are released during its processing.

What waste streams are allowed in a wood waste container? Packing wood, hardboard, softboard, fiberboard, MDF, plasticized wood, chipboard, pressed wood, wood furniture (without covering), painted wood such as doors and frames, painted and stained wood, parquet and laminate.

Sort wood waste with a wood waste dumpster

You obviously know that wood waste is easy to recycle. To do this, it must be sorted separately from other types of waste. A wood waste container is the perfect thing for this. We explain here what types of wood waste can go in a wood dumpster, how wood is processed, the various types of container and, of course, how to order one.

Wood waste container

Where does wood waste come from?

The vast majority of wood waste comes from conversion, remodeling or demolition. Think doors, window frames and wooden floors. A great deal of wood waste also comes from having a thorough clear out, such as old chairs, tables and cabinets. Naturally, you want to get rid of this as soon as possible, because tidy house, tidy mind. Mind out, though! Some types of wood waste can't go in the dumpster, such as some garden waste. Allow us to explain.

What wood where?

Both treated and untreated wood, ie A and B wood, can go in our containers. Small contaminants in the wood are allowed, such as nails, screws and bolts up to 10 mm. A magnet is used to remove these during processing, but more about how wood waste is processed later.

Impregnated wood (C wood) appears on the list of prohibited wood waste. When C wood is processed, toxic substances are released that are harmful to people and the environment. Strict environmental controls therefore apply to this type of wood. Only a handful of processors in the Netherlands meet these environmental requirements. Wood waste from impregnated wood is therefore usually processed abroad. This also makes processing expensive.

Each category of wood waste can of course be broken down into many more product groups. The full list of permitted materials can be found further down this page.

Types of wood waste

We broadly distinguish between three categories for wood waste: A, B and C wood.

  • A-wood is untreated. This is wood in its natural form. After use, the basic wood material still retains its original properties. Hence why this wood is highly suited to reuse or recycling. Packaging, such as pallets, crates and boxes is usually made from A-wood.
  • B-wood has been treated, usually with non-hazardous substances like paint, varnish, stain or glue. B-wood is the most common form of wood waste from demolition work. This includes, among others, hardboard and fiberboard, chipboard, parquet, laminate, doors and frames.
  • C-wood has been impregnated, also known as preserved. This means the wood has been treated with certain substances to extend its useful life. Types of wood that are not particularly durable, such as pine, usually come impregnated. The result is that the wood becomes suitable for outdoor use. Examples include fences or carports (wolmanized) and sleepers (tarred).

Order a wood dumpster in just a few steps

Now you know the difference between the main categories of wood waste, you can work out whether renting out a roll-off dumpster makes sense. Is the answer yes? Processing wood waste

A-wood is often in such good condition that it can be reused immediately. What if it can't? Then this wood makes a great raw material for the paper or chipboard industry. The wood is shredded up. To make paper, the shredded fibers are mixed with warm water to form a fibrous pulp. After sieving, heating and pressing, you're left with paper. To make chipboard or pallets, wood chips are mixed with resin and squeezed together under high pressure and heat.

B wood is also recycled like this. Sometimes the wood chips have another destiny, as a raw material in gardens. What if wood waste really isn't good enough for re-use? Then it's incinerated to generate energy: basically biogas, the green alternative to natural gas. Converting wood into biogas is not as environmentally friendly as recycling, but with this method we are at least avoiding fossil fuels.
